While somewhat of a niche product in the cement industry, HeidelbergCement and Cementir have announced a deal by which Cementir Holdings will acquire majority conrol of Lehigh White Cement in the US. The two plants affected, in Waco, TX and York, PA, have a total production capacity of approximately 260,000 tpa of white cement, a small protion of the overall US cement market. However, it adds to the the extensive production of white cement holdings by Cementir, which include Aalborg Portland in Denmark (formerly owned by FLSmidth) and Sinai White Cement in Egypt. Heidelberg had maintained a controlling interest with a 51% share in the joint venture with Cementir and Cemex. According to a press release by Cemex, Cementir will control approximately 2/3rds of the ownership, while Cemex will increase it’s ownership stake to approximately 1/3rd of the new venture.
