Lafarge to Pursue CO2 Capture Project in Canada

The latest news regarding CO2 emissions reduction comes from Canada.  According to press reports, Lafarge has reached an agreement with Mantra Energy Alternatives to install a small scale system for CO2 reduction.  the system would use approximately 100 kg/day of CO2 emissions to produce formic acid and formate salts for use in the production of fuel cells.  While the system is small in scale compared to typical CO2 emissions, the production of a useful chemical (valued at $1500/ton) using waste gases from the plant could be used at other Lafarge plants if this system is successful.
