Quebec to Invest in McInnis Project

When last we mentioned McInnis Cement,  they had recently unveiled a new project website and were touting the final permitting of their projected plant in Port Daniels.  The latest news on the project is that Quebec will be providing roughly 1/4th to 1/3rd of the financing on the project to make the plant a reality.  This is creating some friction within Quebec, as there are currently 4 other plants operating in Quebec and reporting an oversupplied market, with furloughs to workers at several facilities.  This adds to tensions related to the project placing Montreal’s two best known corporate families against each other; the Beaudoin/Bombardier family (owning stakes in McInnis) and the Desmarais (who own a substantial stake in Lafarge).
