Lafarge Sees Growth in Emerging Markets

Recent comments by Bruno Lafont, CEO of Lafarge, point to growth in the global cement industry lifting Lafarge over the next several years.  The expansion in the Brazilian cement industry, as mentioned previously, is  fueling a housing market growing as quickly as the US market.  Growth in the South American and Asian markets is offsetting a sluggish recovery in Europe.

Of note are plans by Lafarge to open a new cement plant in India, as well as the addition of capacity in Iraq and Canada, and the renovation of one plant in the US.  With other projects scheduled to start construction shortly in Canada, these comments seem to indicate a further recovery in the North American cement industry.
