Wind Power for Suez Cement

News reports indicate that the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company has inked a deal to install wind turbines for producing green energy for use in local cement plants.

The deal has been signed with Italgen, a corporate entity founded by Italcementi to produce and distribute energy for the Italcementi group.  The installed capacity is expected to be approximately 120 MW in Phase 1 of the project and should supply approximately 40% of the energy consumed at Suez Cement, another subsidiary of Italcementi.  The project had been studied since 2008, and had been cited in the recognition of Italcementi by the Egyptian government in April as a  “pioneer” in renewable energy.

The wind farm is slated for installation in the area of Gulf El Zeit.
